Current Chicago Bulls players: Underrated or overrated?
By Luke Askew
As far as current Chicago Bulls players go, are more underrated or overrated? Let’s take a look at some of the key guys on the roster and decide. It feels like nearly every athlete falls on one side of the underrated/overrated argument. The current players on the Chicago Bulls’ roster are no different. Almost every one of them is either overrated or underrated by the public. Some are lucky enough to be properly rated, but we’ll talk more about that later.
So that’s the question we’ll focus on here: Underrated, overrated or properly rated? Let’s get into it.
Kris Dunn
After a dismal rookie season in Minnesota, Bulls fans were hoping Chicago could help Kris Dunn morph into the player they thought he could be pre-2016 NBA Draft. In his first two years with the Bulls, that didn’t happen. The hopes of Dunn being the point guard of the future quickly faded. His inability to run an NBA offense was immensely disappointing.
Now, Dunn has found his role, likely leading him to a long, successful NBA career. He can’t be a starting point guard in this league, but as shown this season, if he plays as a scrappy, defensive-minded bench guy, he has a unique ability to impact games.
Dunn put up a nasty 2.9 steals per 36 minutes in the 2019-20 season, doing so in a myriad of ways. He can pick ball handlers clean, blow up screens and jump passing lanes. He’s truly a special defender, but thanks to the Bulls’ lack of team success, the general public seems to be sleeping on him.
Verdict: Heavily underrated
