27. Doug Collins
Doug Collins has a bit of a resume to tout when it comes to his career as a professional basketball player, head coach, NBA executive and a TV analyst.
Collins was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1973 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He made his debut in the league in October of 1973 after attending high school at Benton High School in Benton, Illinois and college at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.
During the span of his professional playing career, Collins averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. Most notably, he was a member of the Philadelphia 76ers alongside Julius Irving during the 1976-1977 season when the team reached the NBA Finals only to lose to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Collins finished his professional playing career only to turn to coaching between 1987 and 2003. He last coached the Philadelphia 76ers. A short time later, Collins transitioned to an NBA executive role between 1995 and 1998.
Currently, Collins acts as senior advisor of basketball operations for the Chicago Bulls.
Collins’ top professional accomplishments include earning four All-Star Game nods and the Curt Gowdy Media Award.
Collins was born in Christopher, Illinois, a small city located in Franklin County.
