28. Jerry Sloan
Jerry Sloan, who is commonly known as Spider, The Original Bull and Charlie Hustle, made quite a name for himself in the NBA during both his playing and coaching careers.
Sloan made his debut in the league in October of 1965 after attending high school at McLeansboro Township High School in McLeansboro, Illinois and college at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. He spent a majority of his playing career in Chicago.
Among Sloan’s greatest accomplishments are six All-Defensive Team nominations and two All-Star Game nods.
It should not go understated how much Sloan proved to be a defensive specialist during his professional playing career. He ranked among the top 20 in steals per game for two seasons. In addition, he ranked among the top 20 in defensive rating for two seasons.
When his professional playing career ended, Sloan provided great stability and leadership for the Utah Jazz organization as a head coach for more than 20 years. He would earn a variety of accolades, including several Coach of the Month and Western Conference Coach of the Month awards.
Another thing to note is Sloan’s stint as a head coach for the Chicago Bulls organization is better regarded as a footnote than anything else. The level of success he garnered at the time hardly pales in comparison to his time with the Jazz.
Sloan was inducted as a coach into the Hall of Fame in 2009. He has a 0.3% probability of getting inducted as a player into the Hall of Fame.
