Chicago Bulls: 3 reasons to trade Thaddeus Young this offseason
The trade rumors surrounding the Chicago Bulls power forward Thaddeus Young have once again return for the upcoming offseason.
It was figured that a lot of the names that surfaced over the course of the last year in various trade rumors and discussions with the Chicago Bulls would be hitting the block once again in the coming offseason. That rings especially true with the anticipated looming front office changes the Bulls are supposed to make in the near future.
Amid the most often discussed Bulls players on the trade block in the season that is currently placed on pause is the veteran power forward Thaddeus Young. There were trade discussions, especially with the Los Angeles Clippers, that made it off to be that he could be dealt at the deadline two months ago. But of course that didn’t happen.
According to a piece from Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times on April 6, the Bulls could be looking at moving Young on the trade market once again this offseason. The piece mentions how Young and power forward Lauri Markkanen can’t thrive on the same roster together.
Here’s more on what Cowley had to say on the Young trade discussions in this piece from the Sun-Times.
"The reality of it, however, was Young could no longer guard small forwards like he used to, and Markkanen struggled at the five. That left two players fighting for minutes at one position, with Markkanen deemed a developing talent that the franchise insisted they wanted to build around when this season started. The Bulls are on the hook for all of the $13.5 million Young is owed next season, and have partial financial protection for the 2021-22 season when Young is scheduled to make $14.1 million. The Resolution: Young and Markkanen can’t co-exist on the same roster, and considering the age and the ceiling on Markkanen, expect Young to once again be shopped this offseason. Bold Prediction: Whether they were honest or not, the fact that Paxson couldn’t move Young at the deadline was somewhat concerning. The new general manager will get it done, however, as Young will be packaged by next February’s deadline, sent to a playoff contender."
The opinion of Young doesn’t seem to necessarily be low within the Bulls organization, but this signing likely just had poor timing (which was also something mentioned in Cowley’s article).
Here’s a look into the three reasons why the Chicago Bulls should actually consider trading power forward Thaddeus Young this coming offseason.
