Chicago Bulls: Zach LaVine gives back to Seattle amid COVID-19 crisis
There’s no place like home for Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine. As such, the sixth-year shooting guard has been doing his part to give back to the city of Seattle during the COVID-19 crisis.
Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine took time recently to open up about how he’s spending his time and resources since the NBA went on a hiatus in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The crisis has prompted many professional athletes and others to give back to those in need. LaVine is no outlier in this regard.
As it’s been widely reported, LaVine has committed to giving back to Seattle, a place in which he calls home. In an interview with Sam Smith, LaVine shared details about what he’s done for his hometown.
"I got with his organization and Feeding America, where I could donate meals to those in need,” he said. “We donated 13,000 meals."
What’s more is LaVine plans to extend assistance to the Chicago area. The city, too, has taken a bit of a hit from the coronavirus pandemic.
LaVine took time to speak on what he’s been doing for the Chicago area.
"“I’m finding the best way to go about it,” he said. “There are so many different people being affected by this that you want to make sure it goes to the right places.”"
The hope is that the acts of generosity displayed by LaVine and many others won’t be for naught. LaVine was having a career-year before the league decided to suspend the 2019-2020 season. He was 12th in the league in scoring and seventh among guards.
There is a hope shared by many that the NBA will resume when it’s appropriate. In the meantime, it’s not been all business and no play for LaVine since the NBA went on a hiatus.
"“I play a lot of video games and obviously the big thing now is people are getting into the video game community. I’m starting to do that as well,” LaVine said. “I’m creating my own Twitch account because I play video games so much, anyway, and I have a pretty big following with that.”"
If there’s a silver lining to this story, it’s the fact that the Bulls still have a chance at qualifying for the playoffs, if the league resumes the season without any modifications to the schedule.
It remains unclear if and when NBA action will return.
