1. He Got Game (1998)

There were some really great basketball movies released in the 1990’s and early-to-mid 2000’s. Two of the movies on this list were from the same three year span in the mid-to-late 1990’s. The final movie on the list featured a legendary actor, Denzel Washington, in the 1998 smash hit “He Got Game”.

Jesus Shuttlesworth (Ray Allen) was the key character in this movie, as he was trying to work his way into the right situation with colleges all over the country pursuing his commitment. Shuttlesworth was the top high school prospect in the nation, and there was one big distraction that came about for him in the movie.

His father had accidentally killed his mother and was trying to get out of prison and see more of the basketball journey that Shuttlesworth was taking. But the journey doesn’t work out as planned for neither Jesus, nor his father Jake.

This is definitely one of the true classic basketball movies from the 1990’s. This is one of the few movies that has a technically fictional character that has such a widely produced jersey and well-liked main character. If you have access to this movie, it is a must-watch while the NBA is on its hiatus due to COVID-19 precautions.
