3. Semi Pro (2008)

The only movie on this list that doesn’t include a real player from the current or a former NBA season is “Semi Pro”. This is definitely the most comedic of the bunch, though. Semi Pro gives basketball fans, especially those that like actor Will Ferrell, a break from the reality that is the domestic shutdown to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak.

Getting a laugh in is a special feeling right now, and Semi Pro can definitely do that. The “Flint Tropics” are also a classic team that will live on in Halloween folklore. The Flint Tropics jerseys can be found in abundance nowadays.

Ferrell plays “Jackie Moon” in this movie, who is trying to make it in the “American Basketball Association” as a player, owner, and pre-game announcer. Moon bought the Flint Tropics with the profits he received from a one-hit wonder song.

The Flint Tropics struggle to stay afloat for much of the movie, but they ultimately end the plotline on a high with a win over Spurs in the “MegaBowl”.

Semi Pro was recently added to the streaming service Netflix, and can be a great way for NBA fans around the world to pass the time in the midst of the season’s hiatus.
