1. Zach LaVine, Shooting Guard
There’s an easy selection for who the overall Chicago Bulls team MVP would be from the season that was. Bulls 25-year-old shooting guard (recently had his birthday on March 10) Zach LaVine had himself quite the season up to this point. LaVine was nearly an All-Star selection for the first time in his career, and deservedly so.
The natural scorer and ultra-athletic LaVine played in 60 games so far this season. A quad injury sidelined him for a bit, and he didn’t get to play in the last few games for the Bulls before the NBA put the season on hiatus. He was set to return soon, but that all came to a screeching halt earlier this week.
In those 60 games LaVine played in, he averaged 25.5 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.5 steals, while shooting 45.0 percent from the field, 38.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 80.2 percent from the charity stripe. A lot of the per game stats LaVine posted were career-bests, which is why it’s a real shame the season ended early for him.
The areas where LaVine really stood out was in the advanced numbers. He had a career-best defensive rating of 110, box plus/minus rating of 2.5, value over replacement player rating of 2.4, and true shooting around 57 percent. He continued to improve his game as the season moved along too.
