Chicago Bulls: 3 players who should be gone next season
1. Denzel Valentine, Shooting Guard
Since this is the final year of the rookie contracts for two of the former first round draft picks from the 2016 class on this Chicago Bulls roster, maybe neither will be back in the Windy City next season. But the more likely of the two to make his way out of the Windy City this summer is the former Michigan State Spartans shooting guard Denzel Valentine.
Making his way back from an ankle injury that held him out of the entirety of the 2018-19 regular season, Valentine looked to have a major bounce back campaign. But he’s got little to no playing time since the turn of the calendar year. Some injury troubles held him back, but Boylen just mostly doesn’t seem to like Valentine.
So far this season, Valentine is averaging 5.8 points per game, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists, while shooting 40.2 percent from the field, 35.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 100.0 from the charity stripe. Granted Valentine has only gotten to the free-throw line for five attempts in the 30 games he’s played in this season.
Valentine did get rather cold from the field of late. But the fact that he’s a capable offensive creator and outside shooter and Boylen doesn’t want to give him a bigger role at a position of need off the bench seems downright petty. A player like Valentine offers the Bulls a lot of value off the bench, and they need a ton of help on the wing.
