Chicago Bulls: 3 players who should be gone next season
2. Luke Kornet, Center
Of the three players on this list for the Chicago Bulls, the most likely to return next season will be the former Knicks seven-footer and center Luke Kornet. His contract could have him back in Chicago next season, but dumping Kornet off in a trade package could be a good way to look in the early stages of the offseason.
Signing Kornet out of free agency last offseason for a minimum contract seemed like a great move at the time. It might be Boylen’s faulty expectations for just Kornet having a slow season, but he’s not contributing much at all whether he’s coming off the bench or in the starting lineup with a roster decimated by injuries this season.
The frontcourt rotation might need the most reconfiguration for the Bulls heading into the 2020 offseason. Getting rid of Kornet and Felicio should be the first two moves that the front office makes if this is to be the case. Those two are about the worst big man pairing that the Bulls could put together given the current rotation.
So far this season, Kornet is averaging 6.0 points per game, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.9 assists, while shooting 43.9 percent from the field, 28.7 percent beyond the arc, and 71.4 percent from the charity stripe. Kornet’s value as a solid outside shooter and a versatile rim protector are fading with his poor three-point shooting percentage and dropping block rate at 4.4 percent.
