Chicago Bulls: 3 draft prospects from the Big 12 to keep an eye on
By Luke Askew
1. Tyrese Haliburton
- College: Iowa State
- Position: Point guard
- Age: 19
Due to a broken wrist, Tyrese Haliburton is out for the remainder of the 2019-20 college hoops season, so technically it’s going to be tough to keep an eye on him. But I’d urge every Bulls fan out there to watch Haliburton film until the draft. He’s special.
At 6-foot-5, Haliburton has elite size for a point guard and uses that size to his advantage. His jumper is a little wonky. It’s more of a set shot. But because he’s 6-foot-5 and has a relatively high release, he can still get his shot off over most defenders. This season, in 22 games, he shot 41.9 percent from deep on 5.6 attempts per game.
Haliburton’s standout skill isn’t his shooting ability, though. It’s his passing.
His vision is already elite. He sees passing lanes before anyone else on the court. He also never seems to be in a rush. He plays at his own, slow speed, picking apart the defense in a tactical fashion. He’s brilliantly patient in the pick and roll, and he can lead the fastbreak in Lonzo Ball-like ways.
The Bulls’ biggest problem on offense is stagnation. Their lack of ball movement is painful to watch. If Chicago lucks into a top-5 pick, they should seriously consider taking Haliburton. He’d be the perfect guy to help inject some fluidity into the Bulls’ offense.
