Chicago Bulls: Love/hate list from seventh straight loss
By Luke Askew
The Chicago Bulls dropped their seventh consecutive game after a tough loss to the Hornets. Here are some things I loved and some things I hated from the game.
A double-digit loss to the Charlotte Hornets in late February only means one thing: This season needs to end.
The Chicago Bulls put up a valiant effort in the second half tonight, but thanks to a dreary first quarter, it was too little too late for Zach LaVine and Co.
Here’s tonight’s love/hate list.
Hate – The individual level of play
Coming out of the All-Star break — a time where players can rest and heal up — the Bulls were still forced to trot out lineups that included multiple G League level guys at a time. They were without Otto Porter Jr., Kris Dunn, Lauri Markkanen, Wendell Carter Jr., Chandler Hutchison and Denzel Valentine — six guys that should be playing meaningful minutes.
When you’re forced to play Ryan Arcidiacono, Shaquille Harrison and Cristiano Felicio a combined 70 minutes, you probably aren’t going to be beating other NBA teams.
Love – Thaddeus Young stepping up
Thaddeus Young had a good game. That was one of the only bright spots on the night.
Young scored a team-high 22 points on an efficient 10-of-18 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 shooting from 3-point range to go along with 11 rebounds and four steals. He was locked in and had the Bulls been able to successfully make a comeback, he would’ve been the main reason why.
Hate – The slow start
It’s hard to understand why the Bulls came out slow tonight. They were fresh off a long All-Star break and desperately needed a win. But none of that mattered. The Bulls still let the Hornets jump out to a 33-20 lead after the first quarter.
I don’t care how many injuries this team is dealing with. They need to have more pride at home.
Love – Limiting Devonte’ Graham
The Bulls did a nice job of keeping the Hornets’ best player, Devonte’ Graham, in check tonight. He didn’t score a single point and was 0-of-7 from the field.
Part of that is simply on Graham for missing shots, but the Bulls deserve some credit for forcing him into tough looks.
Holding the best player on the opposing team scoreless is always something to appreciate.
Hate – What this means for the rest of the season
The rest of this season is going to be extremely difficult for Bulls fans to watch. I mean, this whole season has already been tough to watch, but it looks like it’s only going downhill from here.
Chicago has now lost seven straight games, they have an incompetent head coach running the on-court show and nearly every important player on the team is battling injuries.
It’s almost impossible to be excited about the rest of this Bulls season. Can it just be over yet?
