3. Troy Weaver
Current Position: Oklahoma City Thunder assistant GM/VP
If the Chicago Bulls wanted to dig a bit deeper to find their next general manager to possibly replace Forman, then there’s a ton of assistants and vice presidents of basketball operations they could turn to. The Bulls would be wise to look at a team that constructed a consistent title contender out of almost nothing over the course of the last decade or so.
The Oklahoma City Thunder definitely had one of the NBA’s more talented rosters throughout the 2010’s. Drafting and developing the likes of Kevin Durant, James Harden, etc. of late should be directly credited to a good group in that Thunder front office and scouting team.
Once it seemed like the Thunder were charted for the course of a rebuild, after sending out forward Paul George to the Los Angeles Clippers and point guard Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets, they turned it all around in the blink of an eye.
The Thunder assistant general manager and vice president Troy Weaver deserves a lot of the credit alongside Sam Presti in keeping this franchise afloat in playoff contention in the last three or four years. This organization constantly makes savvy moves to direct a successful roster in OKC.
Prior to taking this role with the Thunder, he was the director of player personnel at the outset of the Utah Jazz rebuild in the late 2000’s. And he was an assistant coach on the Syracuse Orange staff when they won a National Championship behind the efforts of star forward Carmelo Anthony in the early 2000’s.
