1. Needed scoring spark off the bench

D-Rose provides a bad Pistons team with a big-time scoring spark off the bench, but it isn’t enough to get that squad in a playoff position in the Eastern Conference standings right now. The Chicago Bulls arguably have a much better supporting cast (when healthy) than the Pistons do. Neither roster in particularly impressive, though.

The problem for the Bulls and Pistons is that those are likely the two teams with the least clear direction heading into the 2020 offseason of the five in the Central Division. The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the process of tanking, but do have a very young core to build around. And the Indiana Pacers are a dark horse contender in the East and the Milwaukee Bucks have to be considered the favorites on this side of the playoff bracket once that time comes.

All the Bulls need to do this offseason to make their team better is find a star, add depth in two or three position groups, and get a more functional coaching staff and front office personnel setup. That’s a laundry list of items to tackle, but there could be a new general manager on the way in the Windy City.

Get a supporting cast for this Bulls team that emphasizes shooting guard Zach LaVine and power forward Lauri Markkanen in more beneficial roles, and this squad can finally move forward. D-Rose could be a primary scorer and ball handler at times off the bench that can allow LaVine to not take so many difficult shots and get Markkanen in more beneficial areas as a spot up shooter and driver.
