2. Veteran mentorship for Coby White

The former North Carolina Tar Heels rookie 6-foot-5 point guard Coby White was picked up with the seventh overall pick of the Chicago Bulls in the 2019 NBA Draft. He had the most hope of becoming a proficient point guard in a Bulls uniform since they shipped Rose off to the Knicks back during the 2016 offseason.

However, White hasn’t lived up to the hype thus far. Bulls fans should know that it was going to be a process in getting White up to speed in the NBA. He’s got problems with his shooting percentages inside the three-point arc and his assist numbers are very inconsistent. A 15.3 percent assist rate and a turnover rate at 11.1 percent isn’t very good.

So far this season, White is averaging 11.1 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists, while shooting 37.0 percent from the field and 33.8 percent from beyond the arc. Fans saw a lot of promising flashes out of White during his rookie campaign. Expect him to take a big leap forward next year, but patience needs to remain with his development.

Excelling in this bright Chicago spotlight as a floor general is something that D-Rose knows very well. He’a also seen the worst of Bulls fans over the course of the last decade. Since he’s seen the best and the worst of this Bulls fan base, he could really help White deal with all the pressure that comes with holding the keys to the offense as the starting point guard.
