Maybe the most appealing long-term possible signing that could emerge on the buyout market this season is the former Duke Blue Devils five-star recruit and big man Harry Giles. Since the Kings landed former Bulls forward Jabari Parker at the deadline, and they already have fellow former Duke big man Marvin Bagley in the mix, Giles might be forced out of Sacramento.
In his second season playing with the Sacramento Kings, Giles is elevating his game. But there are still the discussions that the Kings could buyout the contract of Giles after the trade deadline. He was a bona fide trade chip that the Kings could’ve used at the deadline since they have a clog of depth in the frontcourt rotation at the moment.
According to ESPN’s NBA insider Zach Lowe, the Kings made a bizzare move to decline Giles’ third-year option. He was a good trade deadline target for a number of teams that needed a long-term depth piece in their frontcourt rotation. But the Bulls are one of those teams that does need help in the frontcourt rotation and could insert themselves more firmly in the Eastern Conference playoff race if they were able to do so.
Giles is averaging 5.2 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists, while shooting 54.2 percent from the field and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe. He also has a player efficiency rating above 16.0 and would have more than one win share if he were to play in even more than 30 games so far this season.
