A name that feels like it appears each passing year now on the buyout market is the Dallas Mavericks 34-year-old 6-foot-5 shooting guard Courtney Lee. The mavericks are the eighth team that Lee played on during his journeyman NBA career. He spent most of his career between the New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies, three seasons with each team.
So far this season, Lee is averaging 4.3 points per game, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.3 assists while shooting 60.6 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from three-point land. That astronomical three-point shooting percentage is mostly due to a lack of overall attempts from downtown. Lee has played in just 12 games this season and has 20 total attempts.
Lee played in less than half of the regular season games possible last season, and he’s well on pace to get there again this year. He split time between the Knicks and Mavericks last season. The production Lee registered between those two teams last season is what a team like the Bulls would be hoping to avoid if they signed him from the open market.
A player with a career 109 offensive and defensive rating like is going to be one that doesn’t come with many expectations wherever he lands if bought out. A recent report from Bobby Marks on Twitter claimed that the Mavericks could buy out the contract of Lee if they essentially want to exchange him for another player in the market.
