The strategy

Beyond the obvious of the shakeups that the Chicago Bulls wanted with the coaching staff and front office since about a dozen games into the 2019-20 regular season, there’s a few moves that could add to this franchise heading into the offseason. The trade to snag OPJ from the Wizards last year was largely considered a success.

Maybe GarPax can salvage some of their reputation this season and make another positive move at the trade deadline on Feb. 6. A good list of underrated targets is there for the taking for them. And they have a number of young trade chips to at least do something to get this team closer to prominence in the East.

The Bulls need to somehow find a way to bridge the role of a seller at the deadline but not completely mortgage the immediate future of the franchise. The Bulls worked so hard to try and make pieces like Markkanen, WCJ, rookie point guard Coby White, and shooting guard Zach LaVine as the faces of the franchise.

That’s not a role that should be all that hard to take on for the Bulls. Granted the front office never makes things as easy as they should be.

It’s just so hard to see the Bulls taking on the role as buyers at the deadline no matter what. At the most, the Bulls should make trades that deal out players like Young and Valentine to land players of equal value in return.
