Separate the idea of the Chicago Bulls moving Young for Harkless that is so often discussed this season, and we can figure out what the best use of a Dunn trade would be. Maybe GarPax should try and see what they could get if they try to stack future draft capital. The Bulls definitely need to keep down the rebuild road by all indications.
If the Bulls could get a future first round draft pick for Dunn, even if it is from a title contender like the Clippers, that would be considered a success. It looked like it would be difficult for the Bulls to get a second round draft pick for Dunn last offseason when the trade rumors were swirling for him back then.
Dunn is exactly the defensive presence that would be perfect for the Clippers behind another stopper in veteran point guard Patrick Beverley. What team would be able to work past the Clippers defense in the playoffs out West if they had Beverley in the starting lineup and Dunn coming off the bench?
Combine the production of Beverley and Dunn to get more than three steals per game and one of the better defensive ratings in the NBA. That is a special backcourt pairing that wouldn’t be well utilized together, but could make a huge impact in the same rotation.
That idea could be worth the Clippers giving up yet another future first round draft pick to try and win an NBA Championship.
