Rookie big man Daniel Gafford gave the Chicago Bulls a real bargain bin value find in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft.
The Chicago Bulls made a solid selection in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft, by nabbing the former Arkansas Razorbacks big man Daniel Gafford at No. 38 overall. Gafford didn’t pay immediate dividends for the Bulls this season, but his polished skill set helped make an impact once head coach Jim Boylen gave him more playing time within the last month.
This 2019 NBA Draft class did have a lot of value among the second round picks and a handful of undrafted free agents. An argument exists that the undrafted free agents are more impactful so far this season than the second round draft picks in the rookie class.
Keep in mind that second round draft picks are often utilized as projects that NBA teams can stow away and develop over the long haul. The San Antonio Spurs were the team that made that famous, with the “draft and stash” strategy, for later first and second round picks.
The difficulty in finding a second round draft pick that’s able to make an impact right away is high. John Paxson and Gar Forman did draft well last summer to nab Gafford in the second round. The selection of the former North Carolina Tar Heels point guard Coby White at seven overall wasn’t too shabby either.
Yet, the Bulls weren’t the only team to find value among the second round picks in this draft class. A lot of the value that will come out of this class remains to be seen too.
Here’s a look into the ranking of the most valued second round picks from the 2019 NBA Draft thus far this season alongside Daniel Gafford of the Chicago Bulls.
