One name to watch for the Chicago Bulls that emerged on the trade block of late is the Minnesota Timberwolves two-way forward Robert Covington.
The 2020 trade deadline could be a very busy one for the Chicago Bulls. If John Paxson and Gar Forman up in the Bulls front office feels that this team can make a legit playoff run in the Eastern Conference (at least to the seven or eight seed), then they could try to bolster the roster before the deadline.
Last season, GarPax made the move at the trade deadline to land small forward Otto Porter Jr. from the Washington Wizards in exchange for forwards Bobby Portis and Jabari Parker. That was a trade that was largely viewed in a positive light by Bulls fans.
This season, there’s another handful of trade targets that the Bulls could have to move this franchise in the right direction and finally get back into the playoffs. In an article by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report report that posted on Jan. 8, it was mentioned that a potential top trade target for the Bulls this season could be the Minnesota Timberwolves starting small/power forward Robert Covington.
Since the Bulls do have a sizable depth need to fill on the wing, landing RoCo could definitely help them out. But Covington isn’t having as productive of a season this year compared to last. That’s likely the biggest reason why the Timberwolves are shopping him in the first place.
Covington is averaging 12.5 points per game, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists, so far this season. Not quite up to par with where he was at last season, but he would still be a positive addition to this rotation under head coach Jim Boylen.
The other potential trade targets that BR mentioned in this piece specifically for the Bulls were the New York Knicks forward Marcus Morris Sr., Wizards forward Davis Bertans, Denver Nuggets guard Malik Beasley, and Knicks guard Elfrid Payton.
The Bulls enter a Jan. 8 battle against the New Orleans Pelicans with a record of 13-24. They sit around three-games out of eighth place in the standings in the East behind the Orlando Magic. If they do want to make that true playoff push this season, then landing a player like Covington to fill a positional need could be necessary.
