The Bulls called a timeout just south of the 10-minute mark. At the time, the team was beginning to lose a bit of ground to the Celtics.
Satoransky approached the free-throw line to bring the Bulls to within 10 points just north of the 8-minute mark.
A short time later, the Bulls get out in transition with LaVine assisting Young for an easy bucket at the rim. This is when the Celtics decided to call a timeout of their own at the 8:14 mark fearing that the Bulls were gaining a bit of momentum. At that time, the Celtics were up 97-85.
To the Celtics’ dismay, Kanter gets called for an offensive foul in the first play out of a timeout.
LaVine made the Celtics pay soon thereafter when he steps behind the arc to score 3 points. The Bulls managed to track down 50/50 balls on several occasions during this stretch.
At the 4:40 mark, the Celtics were still up 98-92.
It seemed like the game could go either way but not without a twist in the plot first. In a bit of a horrific scene, Markkanen is seen laying on the court throbbing in pain after getting tied up with Smart.
Young would be inserted into the lineup in Markkanen’s absence. He would be taken to the hallway outside the locker room to be tended to.
A costly turnover by the Celtics pulled the Bulls to within 3 points just north of the 3-minute mark.
Without a timeout to call, the Bulls were forced to fight hard down the stretch without much direction from their coach or time to draw-up a play.
Young helped pull the Bulls to within 6 points with less than 30 seconds remaining, but it wouldn’t prove to be enough. Ultimately, the Celtics defeated the Bulls 111-104.
