3 Life Lessons Chicago Bulls History Can Teach My Son
By Keith Cork
Conclusion
It’s hard to know what kind of man you’ll become. You’re not even two months old. But what I’d like to do, as a father and as a Bulls fan, is pass along the best parts of me. You don’t have to take them, but I hope you have the emotional intelligence to pick them up, study them, and appreciate the effort. I’ll let you come to your own conclusions.
And I hope, sincerely, that you can have something like the Bulls in your life. It doesn’t have to be the Bulls, but something like it. Something that reminds you of the good times, of how it feels to be on top, the very best of the best.
Something you can follow that gives you heartache even more often than it gives you this level of elation. Because nothing that comes easy will ever give you the pleasure of the wins that come hard. Things you have to battle for, as a player, as a fan, as a soldier, as a man.
When I see the Bulls logo, I’m reminded of greatness. It fills me with a larger-than-life feeling, a lump in my throat that I hope to goodness every player who puts on the jersey can feel in some small way. I would give so much to be in their position. It’s a privilege to represent the great city of Chicago and the greatest franchise in basketball. It’s a burden any man should be excited to bear.
You’ll hear a lot of things as you get older that might make you wonder what in the world it is I see that they do not. You’ll hear a lot of negative talk, a lot of questions, and more than a few sounds of disgust. The reality is that we have made mistakes, everyone involved in this thing that’s bigger than all of us. As fans, we’ve asked too much. As players, we’ve given too little. As decision makers, we’ve squandered opportunities.
But that is life, isn’t it?
In the end, this is more than a game to me. And I am thankful to have ever seen the handful of moments on this list. And I’ll keep watching, with you son, hoping to get a glimpse of more Bulls greatness.
Love,
Your Father
