The favorites
The original report that Collison could be making an NBA return next month from ESPN’s Woj mentioned that the two LA teams were the favorites to sign Collison out of free agency. But there are a number of other teams that could use a veteran point guard like Collison they could place him on a real playoff contender.
Here’s a look at the five teams that all make sense for Collison, beyond the Chicago Bulls.
Clippers/Lakers
The Lakers make slightly more sense than the Clippers since Collison would add yet another efficient weapon that could play well alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The Clippers just have a better supporting cast alongside their superstar duo than the Lakers do.
Philadelphia 76ers
Maybe the second best team in the East, behind the Milwaukee Bucks, the Philadelphia 76ers have one overarching need to reach that next level. They need outside shooting, and that’s exactly what Collison could provide.
Houston Rockets
Building a strong supporting cast for the Houston Rockets superstar shooting guard, and former NBA MVP, James Harden is the name of the game for Daryl Morey. Russell Westbrook is struggling this season, at least by his usual standard of success. Collison can help provide a more consistent point guard presence alongside Harden.
Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic are the least sexy landing spot on this part of the list, but also the one with the biggest point guard need. A combination of developing the Sixers former first overall pick Markelle Fultz and providing an actually competent veteran point guard makes a lot of sense for Collison and the Magic both.
