3. Thaddeus Young isn’t working out as planned so far

Although it’s not all his fault for the poor usage this season under Chicago Bulls head coach Jim Boylen, veteran forward Thaddeus Young is not thriving at all in his inaugural season in the Windy City. He doesn’t have a single start yet this season and is only averaging around nine points per game, four rebounds, and two assists.

It’s weird how similar Jeff Green and Young are in some respects. They both can play at the three or the four, can shoot the three-ball just fine but not great, and stand at 6-foot-8 and between 220-230 pounds. But Green was actually slightly more efficient shooting the three-ball in spots this season than Young (about 33 compared to 32 percent from each forward).

The Bulls really opened up their wallets to sign what they seem to think is a veteran role player that shouldn’t be getting any starts or significiant minutes off the bench. Young is averaging less than 22 minutes on the floor per game and doesn’t have a single start yet this season. He started in all 81 games he played in with the Indiana Pacers last season.

If Boylen and the Bulls don’t want to give minutes to Young, then they might need to shell them out to another forward like Green. Signing Green after the Jazz waived him is by no means a high risk move, but it could upset Thad even further.

The Bulls seemed to have already done their fair share of damage in the eyes of Young as he is visibly unhappy with his role in his first year in Chicago.
