Why should Chicago Bulls fans be upset that their head coach is still Jim Boylen while the New York Knicks are firing a competent one like David Fizdale?
The New York Knicks shook up the NBA coaching carousel on Dec. 6 with the firing of David Fizdale, as he was in the midst of his second season at the helm. Fizdale isn’t really to blame for all the struggles the Knicks had this season, but it looks like the front office needed a scapegoat for all their difficulties within the last three or four years. And the Knicks weren’t a team in the Eastern Conference that needed to move on from their current head coach this season, unlike the Chicago Bulls.
Before the Knicks showed him the door on Dec. 6, Fizdale held a record of 21-83 in 104 games as their head coach. While that is a pretty terrible record, the Knicks management was more to blame than Fizdale himself. From owner Jim Dolan, to president Steve Mills, and general manager Scott Perry, the executive personnel for the Knicks are an absolute mess.
However, the Bulls aren’t in a much better situation with their head coach right now. The Bulls are rolling with Jim Boylen as their head coach. And he’s been in this role since John Paxson and Gar Forman elected to show former head coach Fred Hoiberg the door early on last season. But the results aren’t much better under Boylen’s direction than they were with Hoiberg at the helm.
With another potentially appealing head coaching candidate that is on the market around the NBA, and with Boylen still heading up the Bulls, there’s a lot to be frustrated about for fans in the Windy City. Boylen is a worse head coach, in all likelihood, than a number of candidates that don’t have a position in the NBA at the moment. That list could now include Fizdale.
Here’s a look into three definitive reasons why the Chicago Bulls head coach Jim Boylen is worse in his position than former New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale.
