With their second overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings elected to pass on Doncic and go with the former Duke big man Marvin Bagley. The Kings made their pick in the first round a second consecutive big man off the board.
Down the stretch last season, the Kings started to become one of the most fun teams to watch in the NBA. Their insane pace and offensive efficiency run by a solid young core made Bagley look like he could be one of the true breakout stars of the 2019-20 season. But that didn’t come to fruition yet since he injured his thumb in the Kings season opener against the Suns.
However, if the Kings did have the opportunity to make this pick over again it would be really hard to pass up on the Atlanta Hawks sensational sophomore point guard Trae Young. So far this season, Young is averaging a whopping 27.9 points per game, 4.3 rebounds, and 8.4 assists on better than 37 percent shooting from downtown and 44.6 percent from the field.
The biggest trade of the 2018 NBA Draft wound up being the exchange of Young from the Mavericks for Doncic from the Hawks. And both Doncic and Young took off down the stretch last season. Since the second half of last season, Young is one of the hottest guards in the NBA. He’s hot scoring can’t seemed to be stopped by any NBA team. Hence the defensively stout Indiana Pacers allowing a season-high of more than 45-points to Young in an eventual Nov. 29 Hawks loss.
