Chicago Bulls: Re-drafting the 2019 NBA Draft 18 games into 2019-20
One of the biggest steals in recent memory among undrafted free agents in the NBA appears to be the Heat signing the 6-foot-2 former Oakland and Illinois shooting guard Kendrick Nunn. The Minnesota Timberwolves originally used their selection at six overall in the 2019 draft to pick up the former Texas Tech Red Raiders wing Jarrett Culver.
With how much help the Timberwolves need in the backcourt, landing Nunn in the 2019 NBA Draft would be a good way to go. He could play in more of a combo guard role for the Timberwolves than just a pure shooting guard. His limited size, at 6-foot-2, would allow him to swing between both positions but not really play on the wing much.
Now there is one problem with this hypothetical drafting of Nunn at No. 6. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Golden State Warriors following the 2018 NBA Draft. So technically he couldn’t be drafted by the Timberwolves last offseason, but in this scenario were just going through the rookies at hand this season.
At the moment, Nunn is one of the leading candidates for the Rookie of the Year honors by averaging 16.9 points per game, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists while shooting 40.7 from three-point range and 48.9 from the field. He’s also posting a player efficiency rating of 15.4, which is astounding for going undrafted just one year prior.
