26. Ayo Dosunmu, Point Guard

Current Team: Illinois

The Illinois Fighting Illini have a very special talent on their hands with the electric and athletic 6-foot-5 point guard Ayo Dosunmu. This sophomore floor general is finding more consistency in his game out of the gate this season compared to his freshman campaign. But that’s a trend that usually happens for a point guard as raw as Dosunmu.

Wild nature in his facilitating caused Dosunmu to make a handful of boneheaded decisions almost game in and game out as a freshman. But he should be more refined and a more efficient facilitator overall coming into this season. That hasn’t translated so far as he’s averaging four assists per game and four turnovers.

The assist-to-turnover ratio might be the biggest key for Dosunmu to see a resounding improvement in his draft stock. Better shot selection and shot creation might also help out Dosunmu’s draft stock. He is shooting well over 50 percent from the field so far this season but is still shooting around 30 percent from beyond the arc.

All this also plays into how Dosunmu needs to be more aware as an off-ball defender. Since he’s usually got the ball in his hands while playing for the Illinois basketball program, he doesn’t get to test his off-ball movement and awareness on offense all that much. But he does get lulled to sleep pretty easily when he’s off-ball on the defensive end of the floor.
