28. Cassius Winston, Point Guard
Current Team: Michigan State
Any NBA team in need of a stout veteran point guard presence that would bring a very refined skill set to the table should look into the Michigan State Spartans senior point guard and team captain Cassius Winston. A team that needs a reliable option off the bench at point guard could certainly pursue Winston in the draft.
The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year and consensus All-American honoree Winston has a lot of hardware that he’ll be bringing with him to the NBA Draft 2020. But Winston is going to have to take on a more concise role in the NBA, likely as a second or third unit point guard.
The 6-foot-1 frame and limited athleticism that Winston has will limit his ceiling but also keep his floor very high. Another factor that could hurt the draft stock of Winston this season is the cold shooting start he’s off to. He’s shooting just 40 percent from the field and less than 35 percent from three-point range.
Granted that could change in the blink of an eye.
A lack of high pace in his game and a very high level of facilitating ability will also hold Winston back. He has a bit of a turnover issue considering how much he brings the ball up the court and runs the halfcourt offense for Michigan State. So far this season, he has an assist-to-turnover ratio just slightly over 2-to-1.
