3. James Wiseman, Center
Current Team: Memphis
There is a fascinating situation surrounding the NCAA and Memphis star freshman center James Wiseman right now. Memphis might not be able to get even close to a full season out of Wiseman before he up and declares for the 2020 NBA Draft.
It could limit the draft upside of Wiseman if he’s not able to play in even a dozen games for Memphis this season. That might force him to take his talents overseas for the rest of this season after all. He needs to work on a lot of areas of his game to solidify his status as a potential top three pick in the NBA Draft 2020.
Not many scenarios could occur where Wiseman would make a logical move to return to college for one more season. That leaves him with the options of working out a lot and making sure he has game exposure and film that NBA scouts can see during this draft process.
Between unpolished post moves and a jumper that has promise but still could use work, Wiseman needs the exposure of playing high level college basketball. There might just be too many question marks to his skill set otherwise.
He has showed flashes in just three outings with Memphis, averaging 19.7 points per game, 10.7 rebounds, and 0.3 assists, while shooting better than 76 percent from the field. He also has nine blocks in just those three games.
At this point, we do need a bigger sample size out of Wiseman for a better scouting outlook.
