7. Theo Maledon, Point Guard
Current Team: Asvel Villeurbanne (EuroLeague)
The best international point guard prospect in this draft class looks pretty set in stone at the moment. Asvel Villeurbanne standout floor general Theo Maledon stands at 6-foot-4 and about 175 pounds. Maledon is one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft class, but selecting him should come with an heir of caution.
The draw surrounding Maledon’s draft stock has to do with his driving and facilitating abilities. He is very athletic and quick for his age, just turned 18 not too long ago, and he possesses a very fast first step.
Shooting and off-ball awareness on both ends of the floor are clear areas that need improvement for Maledon. There’s always different paths that hyped up international point guard prospects can go and Maledon isn’t the most refined player in this class.
Obviously a team that is in need of a point guard that is NBA ready and can make an immediate impact for their franchise shouldn’t be taking stock out on Maledon. He should land with a team where he can take at least two or three years to develop his game.
If he does wind up as a lottery selection in the 2020 draft (which there’s a good chance he will be), then Maledon could be one of the more volatile picks in terms of fit.
