NBA Draft 2020: Big Board 1.0 after start of regular season
14. Scottie Lewis, Small Forward
Current Team: Florida
Intangibles, off-ball awareness, and stout quickness and defensive prowess will be the calling cards for the Florida Gators freshman 6-foot-5 shooting guard/small forward Scottie Lewis as we move closer to NBA Draft 2020 next June.
A rough start to the regular season for the Gators is partly faulted to Lewis since he’s off to a really cold shooting start this season. Offensively, it’s going to be hard for Lewis to stick out as a undersized wing or a stout shooting guard since he’s just not showing that he can be a high usage player or reliable secondary ball handler.
Upset losses at the hands of the in-state rival Florida State Seminoles and UConn Huskies hands Florida a 2-2 record and could knock them out of the AP Top 25 rankings next week. Lewis shooting a measly 25 percent from three-point range and well under 40 percent from the field isn’t helping anything.
The explosive first step and natural fluidity in Lewis’ game will allow him to take the ball off the wing and slash his way to the rim. Improve his free-throw shooting and outside shooting and opposing defenses will take him more serious as a threat and not shy away from him when he has the ball beyond the arc.
