How Coby White stacks up
The Chicago Bulls are really going to need big performances off the bench from players other than White this season. But so far, White is about the best spark plug they can find. He’s the volume scoring presence that head coach Jim Boylen is going to need from time to time off the bench.
However, White is also posting some nice numbers considering he’s such a raw product coming out of the UNC basketball program. Although he’s shooting just 37 percent from the field and 29 percent from three-point range, he’s getting hot of late.
A solid performance against the Milwaukee Bucks and the Knicks pushed White’s case to start getting in more and more significant roles off the bench for the Bulls heading into the thick of the regular season schedule. He’s also averaging a pretty insane mark of 18.6 points per 36 minutes, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists, compared to just 1.9 turnovers.
White is nearing the mark of a two-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio, which is impressive given his struggles in that department in the Las Vegas Summer League and the preseason. A 109 defensive rating is also better than anticipated for White.
There are areas where White clearly needs to pickup his play. While that defensive rating isn’t bad, his offensive rating sits at just 94 so far. A -4.8 box plus/minus isn’t what you desire for a few strong outings either.
