1. Sacramento Kings
The constant mismanagement of top players and personnel in recent years land the Sacramento Kings the top spot on this list. Although there’s a lot of similarities in the mismanagement between the Kings and the Chicago Bulls, and where both front offices actually thrived in the past decade.
At least in the past three or four years, the Bulls drafted pretty well it seems. Even dating back to the early 2000’s, a strength of GarPax (at least while they’ve been around together) was drafting. The Kings also did really well of late in the drafting department, landing key pieces such as point guard De’Aaron Fox and shooting guard Buddy Hield in recent years.
What the Kings also managed to do was chase off every long-term star or solid coach that appeared to be in place. Former head coach Dave Joerger was let go once the former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton departed his last position. Walton hasn’t worked out near as well as Joerger did down the stretch for the Kings last season.
Vice president of basketball operations Vlade Divac gets most of the attention for commanding the pace of the Kings front office. He hasn’t made very good decisions in the trade department or in personnel decision in the last 10 years. That’s why the Kings are where they are now without any significant playoff runs in recent memory.
