Power ranking Chicago Bulls players through the first 10 games
By Luke Askew
1. Wendell Carter Jr.
The best player on the Bulls right now is Wendell Carter Jr. and it’s not even close.
Wendell’s only had one bad game this season, and it was mostly due to foul trouble. Outside of that one game, he’s been sensational on both offense and defense. He’s averaging 12.8 points per game on 58.1 percent shooting from the field to go along with 9.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.
He’s only playing 26.9 minutes per game, which makes sense since he’s struggled with injuries recently, but he needs to start playing more. His legs should be back under him now, his conditioning should be better and the Bulls need him on the floor. He has the best net rating on the team and is one of only three Bulls with a positive net rating (Chandler Hutchison and Otto Porter Jr. are the other two).
Another fun fact: Among players who average at least 25 minutes per game this season, Wendell is tied for sixth in contested rebounds per game and first in contested rebound percentage. (That’s good.)
I know Jim Boylen has a lot on his plate right now, but can he get Wendell involved more on offense? Is that too much to ask from the head coach? He’s fourth on the team in touches at 43.7 per game and should be closer to the 50-55 range. He’s an underrated passer, a good decision-maker and a steady hand.
Carter’s only 20 years old, but he’s definitely the most composed – and best – player on this team.
