3. Lauri Markkanen

Lauri Markkanen started his 2019-20 season with a bang, scoring 35 points and adding 17 rebounds in the season opener. After that, his basketball world flipped upside down. On the season, he’s averaging 14.9 points, hauling in 7.4 boards and shooting a putrid 27.9 percent from 3-point land.

The horrifying 3-point shooting is difficult to understand. He’s been known as a consistent deep shooter, and he’s getting good looks this season. He’s just simply missing shots he’d normally make. He’s shooting 25 percent on wide-open threes (6+ feet from the closest defender) this season. Last season, he shot 43.2 percent on wide-open threes.

There may not be a simple solution for getting his shot back on track, but one thing that seems to have worked throughout the history of the game of basketball is taking the ball to the hoop. If you can get your inside game going, that usually helps your outside game. Sometimes you just have to see the ball go through the basket.
