Speaking of any non-one-and-done NBA Draft prospects for 2020, one that is really worth watching throughout SEC play will be the South Carolina Gameocks talented sophomore shooting guard AJ Lawson.

There’s not going to be many candidates in the SEC this season that could make as much noise and improve as much as Lawson can. He’s a part of an underrated NCAA Tournament contender with South Carolina and he could wind up doing big things in the postseason too. He did average 13.4 points per game, 4.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.1 steals during his freshman campaign.

While Lawson didn’t get off to the best start this season, by registering just eight points in the season opener, he has a long way to go. South Carolina will have to rally around him, though, if they are going to get past teams in the SEC East like the Kentucky Wildcats, Florida Gators, and Tennessee Volunteers.

The two clear areas of improvement for Lawson during his sophomore season will be decision making with the ball in his hands and playing stronger. He stands at 6-foot-6 and just 172 pounds, so he still needs to add weight. That’s too thin of frame to compete on the wing at the NBA level. The 2.6 turnovers per game he had last season compared to just 2.9 assists has to get better this season.
