The North Carolina Tar Heels just sent a sizable point guard to the Chicago Bulls via the NBA Draft route with the 6-foot-5 scorer Coby White. What would happen for the Bulls if they were try to take the same route two years in a row?
The Bulls could wind up with that type of backcourt if the 6-foot-3 and 190 pound Tar Heels point guard Cole Anthony falls into their lap.
The NBA is now a game of taking the best player available on the board in the draft, so if the Bulls have a shot at taking Anthony they need to jump on it. Anthony is a valid candidate to be the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and with good reason. He’s averaging more than 27 points per game and 10 assists already.
It’s not like the Tar Heels schedule was anything to scoff at thus far either. UNC already took on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at home in Chapel Hill, and Anthony went off in that 76-65 win. His combination of on-court vision and efficient shot selection should make him a standout talent at both the collegiate and NBA levels.
Moreover, Anthony is the move for the Bulls if this rebuild flatlines this season and John Paxson and Gar Forman are forced into a corner. At least he is the type of game-changing talent that could actually start to turn around this franchise quickly. That’s at least the way it seems with how the former elite five-star recruit played through two regular season games.
