4. Ettore Messina

Current Position: Olimpia Milano head coach (Italy)

Head Coaching Record: N/A

Far down the coaching tree of the legendary San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Poppovich is the former NBA assistant and current Olimpia Milano head coach Ettore Messina. A lengthy assistant coaching resume in the NBA and a lot of proven success in EuroLeague makes for a nice candidate here.

This is the first of two European head coaches on this list that could be good fits with the Chicago Bulls. Although Messina would be a much tougher head coach for his locker room than the other European head coaching candidate here, he would be more up the avenue of what Tom Thibodeau and Boylen bring to the table.

Messina has that rigid style that enforces strong effort on both ends of the floor and tight defense at all times. Maybe that wouldn’t be the worst presence for the Bulls to have for specific rising talents like power forward Lauri Markkanen and shooting guard Zach LaVine. Markkanen and LaVine both have big faults that Messina might be able to patch up.

The combination of the pedigree that Messina brings from his coaching tenure in Europe combined with his solid NBA assistant coaching experience could be great for the Bulls. He had successful assistant coaching stints both with the Spurs and the Lakers. Although, his role with the Lakers was more in a consultant job.
