5. Monty Williams

Current Position: Phoenix Suns head coach

Head Coaching Record: 178-223

Between his time spent in the NBA as an assistant and a head coach, Monty Williams has experience at these ranks dating back to his stint with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2005. At 34-years-old, Williams landed his first major assistant position on a coaching staff, with the Trail Blazers, for the 2005-06 season.

The first head coaching position that Williams landed in came with the New Orleans Hornets (now the Pelicans) in 2010-11. He was just 39-years-old when he snagged his first head coaching role. He is still fairly young compared to the rest of the head coaches in the NBA right now. He’s 48-years-old now.

Moreover, Williams made his way to join the Phoenix Suns as their current head coach over the offseason. Between his current position and the end of his tenure as head coach in New Orleans, Williams was an assistant and associate head coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Philadelphia 76ers.

If the Chicago Bulls could’ve used any common sense, they would know that Williams is a better coaching candidate by a mile than Boylen. Williams at least took a mediocre Hornets/Pelicans team to the playoffs in his first and last seasons in New Orleans.

Williams is off to a really solid start this season with the Suns, holding a top five spot in the Western Conference standings at the moment.
