Chicago Bulls: 10 coaches that would be better than Jim Boylen
7. Chris Fleming
Current Position: Chicago Bulls assistant
Head Coaching Record: N/A
While there’s no head coaching experience at the NBA or collegiate level for the current Chicago Bulls assistant Chris Fleming, it seems like a better hire than Boylen was. It’s not always a bad thing to bring in someone with no NBA head coaching experience if he has potential and looks like the right fit with the roster at hand.
Boylen might be a good stop gap as an interim head coach after former head man Fred Hoiberg was done with the Bulls last season, extending him is worse than bringing in the young hotshot Fleming.
Over the offseason, the Bulls did make two good assistant additions to the coaching staff in Fleming from the Nets and Roy Rogers from the Houston Rockets.
Last season with the Nets, Fleming proved that his smart offensive mind could get a team to the next level. Given the young and promising roster of the Bulls, improving the ball movement and the flow of the offense was a good move. But it would be nice if Fleming would have more control over the plays and the rotations on offense.
All in all, this is more of a point on how bad of a hire Boylen could turn out to be if this trend of losing to really bad teams continues. Fleming wasn’t the home run head coaching hire that Bulls fans were hoping for. But he would be better over the long-term for this franchise than Boylen seems to be.
