There’s a lengthy list of coaching candidates that would’ve been better for the Chicago Bulls to explore than extending Jim Boylen.

It seems like a big mistake, as it stands now, for John Paxson and Gar Forman of the Chicago Bulls to give head coach Jim Boylen a full title with a three-year contract extension over the offseason. John Paxson and Gar Forman might still be happy with their decision just nine games into the regular season.

After landing that contract extension during the offseason, Boylen and the Bulls at least looked to prove they could come out of the gates hot. But that didn’t prove to be true after the Bulls won just two of their first eight games of the regular season. They did pull out a nice win over the Atlanta Hawks on Nov. 6, though.

A weird growing trend for the Bulls this season is beating teams that could be potential playoff contenders and losing to teams that figure to be bottom feeders by season’s end. Losses to the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Charlotte Hornets should really be inexcusable for the Bulls. But wins over the Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies, and the Hawks are a bit surprising.

The impatient Bulls fans that already didn’t like Boylen heading into the 2019-20 regular season makes it more challenging for patience to keep him hanging around. He didn’t do much of anything last season to prove he is worth the Bulls head coaching job and he never had a tenure anywhere else that gives added confidence.

Here’s a deeper dive into the 10 head coaching candidates that would’ve been better hires for the Chicago Bulls over the offseason than handing out a three-year contract extension to the former interim head coach Jim Boylen.
