Knicks fans were absolutely devastated when they failed to land one of Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Zion Williamson, or Anthony Davis this Summer. Many saw the offseason as an utter failure, however, New York may be able to snag an Anthony Davis-lite with their first round pick in the 2020 draft.
James Wiseman was the top overall prospect in the high school class of 2019. It is becoming exceedingly rare for the number one high school product to be selected first overall, as the last player to do so was Ben Simmons back in 2016. The Memphis native turned some heads when deciding to stay home and play for Tigers’ new coach Penny Hardaway.
Wiseman projects to be an ideal modern NBA center, standing at 7-foot-1 and possessing the ability to handle the ball, shoot the mid range, pass, and work out of the post. In addition, Wiseman is regarded as one of the best shot blockers in the country.
His downside is that he is far from a finished product, as he is still learning the game as a whole and developing his basketball IQ. However, the Knicks will not be looking to expedite their rebuild as they tried to this summer, as the trade and free agency markets are simply not what they were this past offseason.
