A product of Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Ayo Dosunmu was a five-star recruit in the high school graduating class of 2018 who committed to play basketball at the University of Illinois.

Many believed Dosunmu could have been an late first round or early second round selection in the 2019 NBA Draft, but instead he chose to return to Champaign for his sophomore season. We have seen these types of decisions work out well for players recently, such as P.J. Washington’s decision to stay back another year at Kentucky.

Dosunmu has the ability to be a fringe-lottery pick without a doubt, it is simply a matter of execution. He is a lightning-quick guard who excels on both ends of the floor. He will need to improve his physical strength, but Toronto could use him as a replacement for the eventual departure of Fred VanVleet  via cap casualty.

Tre Jones’ decision to remain at Duke certainly was a surprising one, as he was projected to be a first-round selection by most scouts. In addition, last year’s draft class was much weaker at the point guard position than this year’s stacked group.

However, Jones will still likely hang around in the same slot he was expected to go in last year. Jones is a Minnesota native whose brother was also drafted to the Wolves a few years back. Minnesota needs a point guard who can distribute to scorers Karl Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, and Jarrett Culver.

Jones is undersized and there is not much to his game, but his efficiency as a passer may be exactly what the Timberwolves need at this point. Going power forward here could also be a viable option, however, there are none on the board who are worthy of being selected this high.
