12. Luke Kornet, Center
The start to the 2019-20 regular season for the former Knicks stretch-five Kornet didn’t do himself any favors in terms of value. Kornet might be the most disappointing player for the Bulls thus far, especially among the new additions to the 15-man roster. The jury should still be out on how good this signing will actually be for Boylen and the Bulls.
Heading into the regular season, it seemed as if Kornet could be one of the more underrated free agency signings from last offseason. The Bulls nabbed him on a veteran’s minimum deal, and he looked to fit the mould of an ideal modern and young center off the bench. That idea of Kornet’s skill set would still gain a decent amount of appeal from other NBA teams.
The ability that Kornet showed to space the floor and still rim protect with proficient and polished fundamentals in the paint on defense brought an intriguing presence to the table for the Bulls. But none of that value that Kornet was seemingly bringing to the Windy City showed up yet. For the time being, his trade value would have to be considered to be falling pretty quick.
The 24-year-old 7-foot-2 and 240 pound former Vanderbilt Commodores product has just 3.8 points per game, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.8 assists. He’s shooting 20 percent from three-point range and 31 percent from the field. The player efficiency rating for Kornet is also hovering around 8.0. All that could improve once he gets settled into this Boylen and Roy Rodgers scheme, though.
