The seventh-overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft, Coby White fell into the Bulls lap in an intersection of talent and need. The Bulls were able to get their assumed point guard of the future without having to trade anything away. White’s biggest contribution hasn’t been his playmaking so far in the season.

White, coming off the bench, is eighth in scoring among rookies, 17th among bench players and is leading the Bulls in the category. The rookie is third on the team in scoring and while his shooting numbers have fallen from the preseason, he has raised his free throw percentage.

The best game in his young career was against the Grizzlies. In the second half of that game with the Bulls trailing 60-47 at halftime, White went on to score 21 of his 25 points and rally the team for its lone victory on the season. His minutes have fallen in the two subsequent games.

That is the most noticeable thing about White currently. Starting point guard Tomas Satoransky is not a threat to score consistently. He avoided trying to down the stretch against the Knicks and when he did shoot, it was an odd-looking three attempt; a shot he is hitting at around a 22 percent clip.

Perhaps it is time to get White in the lineup for some added scoring juice down the stretch. He was off against the Cavs, but the Bulls sure could have used the gravity he creates.
