Once again, the Chicago Bulls were able to find good value with their first round pick in the twenties in an NBA Draft. In the 2015 NBA Draft specifically, it was the former Arkansas Razorbacks power forward Bobby Portis that the Bulls snagged in the twenties. Portis wasn’t too bad of a pick either.
As I mentioned before, there is always a pick that teams would take on average in landing a quality role player like Portis in the later slots of the first round. At this point of his career, Portis is looking to slot himself firmly among the starting quality players for the Knicks (granted there aren’t many on the roster in total).
What works against Portis in this situation is the fact that there was actually a lot of quality talents deeper down the draft board in 2015. Right after Portis, forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and point guard Tyus Jones were picked up at No. 23 and 24. There was a lot of solid bench player depth in the latter picks in the twenties here.
The big name that comes to mind in the midst of the power forwards selected later on in the first round of the 2015 draft is the Cavaliers and former Wyoming Cowboys big man Larry Nance Jr. With how bad the Cavaliers are at the moment, it’s easy to forget how good Nance Jr. really is. He would’ve been a good pick for the Bulls late in the first round of the 2015 draft.
