There wasn’t as much talent in the 2013 NBA Draft that went as there was in 2012. Through and through, the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft was much deeper than the following year. But that didn’t stop the Chicago Bulls from finding a good value pick later on in the first round. You can’t really count on finding a great player outside of the lottery.
But the Bulls were able to find a good role player at No. 20 overall with wing Tony Snell. He gave three decent seasons to the Bulls, but that were much better players that went later on in the first round of the 2013 draft. Snell is playing for the Pistons this season.
For example, the Utah Jazz (originally the Denver Nuggets) nabbed defensive standout center Rudy Gobert as an unheralded French prospect at pick No. 29 in the first round of the 2013 draft. After that there wasn’t much to write home about. Gobert was the last All-Star drafted in 2013 as the second round didn’t produce much.
There was a decent need for the Bulls to add depth in the frontcourt beyond the likes of Joakim Noah and Gibson at the time. Gobert would’ve been a solid pick, as would’ve the former Duke Blue Devils standout center Mason Plumlee. Those were two picks the Bulls should’ve thought of ahead of Snell back in 2013.
