The second first round pick for the Chicago Bulls in the 2018 NBA Draft didn’t turnout as good thus far as Carter Jr. That other first round pick for the Bulls in the 2018 draft was the former Boise State Broncos small forward Chandler Hutchison. And like Carter Jr. and Markkanen, it is too early to tell if Hutchison pans out like the Bulls planned.
There just wasn’t good reason for the Bulls to give that supposed draft promise to Hutchison last year after the NBA Draft Combine. Hutchison was an older player that had a long way to go still. That is usually not a recipe for success, despite the vast need for the Bulls to add wing depth that still exists to this day.
Yet, is isn’t too early to tell that there were other 2018 draft picks taken after Hutchison that would work out better with this team. In fact, two of the next four guards picked in the first round in the twenties were very solid role players already between Landry Shamet of the Los Angeles Clippers and Anfernee Simons of the Trail Blazers.
And the final pick that you could consider for the Bulls to take instead of Hutchison at No. 22 overall in the 2018 draft was a standout center for the Knicks, Mitchell Robinson. But Robinson was drafted in the second round last year, so that is hard to look back on with 20/20 hindsight and say GarPax missed out on him.
